At the initial consultation, we discuss your wishes, experience (if any), what childbirth education you have had or are currently
taking, my scope of practice and review my birth contract. This is where we would find out if we're a good match or not.
I'd need roughly 30 minutes to an hour and we can meet wherever you'd feel most comfortable.
If we are a good match, our 2nd visit will be to formally sign the contract and I collect my retainer. At this meeting
I am officially your doula. If scheduling allows, I will bring my backup doula as well so you can meet her and decide if
she's a good match as well. We will go over your birth plan, I'll collect the pertinant information (your ob/midwife, where
you'll be delivering, etc.). You will receive a loaner copy of my family book, which is a collection of information I have
that I leave with a client until our 3rd meeting. It has an extensive list of resources, ideas and practice technique so
that you have a general idea of what will go on while I'm attending your birth. If my backup doula is not available, I can
schedule that meeting at a better time for everyone. You will have an opportunity to meet her and/or any replacement prior
to your birth.
At our 3rd meeting, I will physically practice positioning, experiment with massage technique and other measures to see
what you do and do not like, finalize your birth plan, summarize childbirth education and tie up any questions you have.
I can meet for other needs, such as to meet your care provider in person prior to a birth, attend childbirth class(es)
and hospital/birth center tours with you, help with your baby registry- anything you feel you need me for as long as I am
available. I ask 24 hours notice in order to arrange child care. There is no charge for extra meetings, just based on availability.
If you're contacting me in your 37th week or shorter and I am available, we can combine the meetings to help with time
constraints.
